10 Tiny Plays was a new writing project in 2011 from the innovative Action Transport Theatre (ATT), an exciting company that exists to put new writing and young people at the heart of UK theatre.
Following a national call out where over 160 pitches were received, ATT selected just 10 writers to work with to develop '10 Tiny Plays' that offered a diverse and challenging glimpses into what it is to be young – all just 5 minutes in length.
The plays were then performed by young actors as part of an evening of flash fiction at the Shell Chester Literature Festival in October 2011.
Gail's short play #Jan 25 was one of the selected plays. At the time of the initial stages of the Action Transport Theatre project ‘Ten Tiny Plays’ , the Egyptian Revolution had hit the headlines across the world. Gail had read a great deal about the situation there, in particular how young people had communicated with each other via twitter using the hashtag ‘#Jan25’. Her micro play focused on a day in the life of three Egyptian teenagers as they venture onto the streets of Cairo to state their political beliefs.
